Innovation Hub Munich

Innovation Hub Munich

Designing an adaptable hub for collaboration, creativity, and future ways of working.

Project Overview

This project defined the spatial and experiential design of a new innovation environment in Munich’s Der Bogen headquarters. Working closely with stakeholders, the team crafted a setting that encourages collaboration, experimentation, and meaningful engagements.

The challenge

How do you design a space that not only supports daily flexibility and collaboration, but also embodies an evolving innovation culture that can adapt to future ways of working?

Research

Grounded in real needs

Research process
The project began with an in-depth discovery phase:

  • Site visits to both the current and upcoming locations

  • Interviews with key team leads and stakeholders

  • On-site photography and spatial analysis

  • Co-creation workshops to gather feedback and map expectations

Insights gathered
This process highlighted key challenges around:

  • Layout and spatial flow

  • Need for modularity and adaptability

  • Brand visibility and experience consistency

  • User journeys across diverse scenarios

Concept

Shaped by flow, defined by function

The design divides the space into distinct but connected zones: Entry, Networking, Experience, Collaboration, and Presentation. Each area responds to specific moments—informal chats, hands-on demos, large-scale presentations—using movable walls, adaptable furniture, and scalable tech setups for optimal modularity.

5 Experience Principles

The design concept is anchored by five key principles:

  • Flexibility – to support dynamic configurations and evolving needs

  • Ease of use – making every element intuitive and accessible

  • Future-thinking – prepared for emerging technologies and new ways of working

  • Collaboration – to bring people and ideas together seamlessly

  • Showcasing innovation – enabling tangible, inspiring experiences for clients and teams

These principles shaped decisions across zoning, branding, and technological infrastructure.

Execution

Framing the process

To shape a meaningful proposal, we began with immersive fieldwork:

  • On-site visits at both the current and future locations

  • Stakeholder interviews to understand workflows, expectations, and everyday challenges

  • Photographic documentation to support layout analysis and mood study

  • Co-creation workshops to map out spatial needs and future opportunities

Design as a collaborative tool

Rather than waiting until the end, we used design outputs like early renderings, layout diagrams, and zoning visuals to support the process itself. These materials became conversation drivers—aligning visions, triggering questions, and grounding abstract needs in tangible form.

From vision to specification

This collaborative process culminated in a series of tangible design assets that articulated the vision and strategy for the space:

  • A complete concept deck with modular zoning, user flows, and branding strategy

  • Visual boards supporting layout logic, atmosphere, and function

  • A selection of technologies, furnishings, lighting schemes, and material samples tailored for adaptability and innovation

Outcome

A space that adapts, connects, and inspires

The final concept delivers a modular and future-ready environment that supports collaboration, showcases innovation, and reflects a forward-thinking identity. Designed with stakeholder input, it adapts seamlessly to diverse use cases while enhancing engagement and flow.
